Answer #1

The Ka value for HF = 7.1 x 10-4

The Ka value for aspirin, acetylsalicylic acid (HC9H7O4) = 3.0 x 10-4

The Ka value for phenol (C6H5OH) = 1.3 x 10-10

Hence the increasing order of acidity of the molecules is HF > HC9H7O4 > C6H5OH

Since we know that stronger the acid the weaker is its conjugate base;

  • The weakest base is: F-
  • The intermediate base is: C9H7O4-
  • The strongest base is: C6H5O-
  • not a Brønsted-Lowry base : HF
