You are working on a consumer perception study of four brands of bicycles. You will need to develop measurement questions to accomplish the tasks listed below. Prepare a preliminary analysis plan, including the dummy tables, and

specify which data levels (nominal, ordinal, interval, ratio) are necessary in scale selection.

a Prepare an overall assessment of all the brands.

b Provide a comparison of the brands for each of the following dimensions:

The process of selecting and vetting appropriate questions to be asked in research is known as the preliminary analysis plan. This plan is a detailed look at the procedures and protocol a research plans to use for data collection and it may include many different types of tables, graphs, and analysis tools. Additionally, there are four scale types that can be used to determine which analytical tools are available to the researcher: nominal, ordinal, interval, and ratio scales can all influence statistical choices and hypothesis testing. Dummy tables, as the name indicates, is a way to test how well the questions that are developed might meet the needs of the researcher. Furthermore, the scale types can be described as the following: ratio scale type includes classification, order, distance, and natural origin; while interval includes the first three, and not the latter; ordinal contains the first two, and not the latter two; and, nominal consists of classification, but does not have an order, distance, or natural origin For the instance of the bicycle brand consumer perception, ordinal data for age and perception will be the most effective. A dummy table example for the problem is listed below:

Most Likely to Buy Which Brand of Bicycle

Age

Schwinn

Melon

Stelber

Radio Flyer

18–24

25–34

35–44

45–54

55–64

65+

Although the example dummy table is simple in nature, it gives a clear picture of what type of data a researcher may be able to glean from using ordinal statistical tools. To begin the research, each of the four brands listed above will be evaluated based on styling, durability, gear quality, and brand image. The important thing to remember in this particular study is that each of these data points might hold true data, but consumer perception is ultimately about each data point is what the research question asks. When comparing styles, Schwinn and Radio Flyer offer the traditional look of a bicycle as one might see in a movie depicted in the earlier part of the 20th century. However, Melon and Stelber offer a new take on an old classic; for example, electrical options and folding options that fit into compact spaces. This means that data may show the first two listed appeal to a more traditional and conservative crowd, whilst the latter two would most likely appeal to a younger generation The same information might be collected through the durability and gear quality as older, stronger equipment has often been seen as having higher quality. This could sway the data to show a similar movement. Finally, consumer perception of brand image can be swayed for a number of reasons ranging from corporate social responsibility to product recalls. “Product innovativeness is often related to key innovation characteristics, however…conceptualization of product innovativeness has yet to be directly tested”.This concept is important because ultimately a deep analysis of the electric and folding options provided by the newer companies would not have enough data to evaluate the effectiveness of its innovations on a brand image. Therefore, brands like Schwinn and Radio Flyer will have more solid statistical data until those types of studies are complete.

From the biblical perspective, classification of one product to another might be necessary for a business research study, or a analyst tasked with determining the value in a particular company; however, Christians are charged to ensure their sole approval comes from God, “For am I seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ”. It is important when we get so wrapped up in buying a new house or vehicle that we take the time to stop and realize that these things are for the pleasure of man, and not the God we serve.
