Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) or Bring Your Own Technology (BYOT)
With the proliferation of smart phones and intelligent computing tablets such as the iPad, enterprises are increasingly faced with employees who want to bring their own devices and connect to enterprise systems. Determine whether or not employers should allow this type of connectivity to enterprise systems. Support your reasoning with three examples.
Bring Your Own Device
As we know that the number of devices increasing rapidly and these are coming with the latest technology, So people are tend to bring their own devices instead of using the device that an enterprise has.
Employees want to bring their own devices and that may be the following reasons :
1. Employees device is far faster than the device that enterprise has.
2. Employees device has more feature, able to do more thing.
3. Enterprise device hasn't updated their device and may be running of memory shortage.
4. Task completed by an enterprise device may take more time or has lower RAM to operate. Thus employess felt bored
5. Employee is not used to operate the enterprise's device.
There may be number of cases where an employee'sdevice is far better than the devices used in an Enterprise.
Although there is many good reasons to use own device but Employer should not allow this type of connectivity to enterprise systems.
Following are the reasons which an Enterprise should take into consideration and Not allow BYOD system:
1. Security : Enterprise device should be made for specific purpose only not for personal use. In this case we can track the data flow from the system.
2. What if an employee left the enterprise ? In this situation enterprise may loose essential data. If employee use the enterprise device then all these data will be with the enterprise.
3. In some cases, If employee lost their device, then the hard work which has been operated on the device will also be lost.
4. Enterprise should keep track of regular updates for the device and update it accordingly to avoid lot of junks in the system that make device to work smoothly.
5. There is chance of loss of some sensitive data if BYOD is allowed. As there are many cases where hacker used to do pishing and do intrusion in the system. Employees device may easily prey to this type of attack as employee may click on any link/url thinking that it is safe but actually it isn't.
6. Enterprise shouldn't bother about employee device as the work needs to done by the system can be done via device owned by enterprise. As Enterprise device is only meant for the specified task which will give high performance rather than employees device which is working to much work on different different application parallely.
Hope you get pretty amount of reasoning why Entrerprise shouldn't focus about BYOD. Vote up. Thanks
