Return of stolen property doesn't make a defense to criminal prosecution. Theft is theft even though the thief returned it. The person can be convicted on the theft case

Lack of requisite intent- missing the intent to do the crime is a defense to criminal prosecution

Insanity- the person who committed a crime if he is insane then they can use insanity as a defense to criminal prosecution

Entrapment - the crime is happened only due to the harrasment or coersion of a government official. Otherwise there will be no crime then entrapment is a defense
