Answer #1

Given data :

Take off speed of jet (V) = 165 mph

= (165*0.44704) m/s

= 73.762 m/s

time (t) = 2 s

assumption:

  • fighter jet starts from rest. i.e (U = 0)
  • acceleration will remain constant during take off

from equation of motion

V = U + a*t

where a is acceleration of jet

73.762 = 0 + a*2

a = 36.881 m/s2

so the deck space needed to allow a fighter jet take off from an carrier

S = U*t + a*t2/2

S = 0*2 + 36.881*4/2

= 73.762 m

thus deck space needed is 73.762 m
