Answer #1

Answer:

d) All of the above,

SMTP is included :

  • a mail submission agent (MSA)
  • a mail user agent (MUA)
  • a mail retrieval agent (MRA)
  • a mail exchanger (MX)
  • a mail delivery agent (MDA)

and potentially different servers in the middle of known as mail transfer agents (MTAs). As you can see, the transfer of email is mind-boggling from the start only because of the number of servers and agents associated with the procedure.

The procedure stream for sending an email goes as follows:

1. The MUA (customer) sends the appropriately formatted email to the MSA or legitimately to an MTA

2. The MSA sends the mail to its MTA

3. Additional MTAs may be steered through until the email is on a "boundary MTA"

4. The boundary MTA plays out a question utilizing DNS to recognize the MX for the domain the email is planned for

5. The MTA associates with the MX and transfers the email

6. The MX transfers the email to the MDA

7. At this point, the mail is transferred to the appropriate internal mail server and put away until the MUA or MRA associates with it and recovers the message on behalf of the user (usually utilizing the POP or IMAP protocols).

So SMTP is used for both: transferring mails from server to server and from server to user agent.
