  • Carbon dioxide is transported through blood in three ways : Dissolved in plasma, attached to hemoglobin, as bicarbonate ions.
  • When carbon dioxide enters the blood, it produces carbonic acid and hydrogen ions.
  • Hydrogen ions stimulates release of oxygen.
