In order to conserve fuel you modify your car by removing 100 kg of excess weight. How much energy is saved each time you accelerate from 0 to 100 km/hr?
Please explain and show your work.
According to the given problem,
Let the mass of car be M,
Here as the car is accelrating K.E is the only energy applicable.
And as the car is starting from rest intial K.E is always zero
The energy saved is,
E = K.E1 - K.E2
= 1/2Mv2 - 1/2(M-100)v2
= 1/2*100*v2 where v is = 100km/hr = 27.78 m/s
= 0.5*100*27.782.
= 38.58 = 38.6 kJ. [saved energy]
I hope you understood the problem, If yes rate me!! or else comment for a better solution.

1. A car of mass m = 1,500 kg (~midsized sedan), originally moving at 10 m/s (~ 22 mi/hr), accelerates until it reaches a speed of v = 20 m/s (~ 44 mi/hr). How much kinetic energy has the car gained? Please explain in detail. Thank you.
How does the fuel consumption of a car change as its speed
increases? Here are data for a British Ford Escort. Speed is
measured in kilometers per hour, and fuel consumption is measured
in liters of gasoline used per 100 kilometers traveled.
(a) Make a scatterplot. (Do this on paper. Your instructor may
ask you to turn in this work.)
What is the explanatory variable?
The explanatory variable is: (choose one of the following)
1. car model
2. fuel consumption...
You recently drove on the highway and kept a record of every time you passed a car. You found that you did 30 such passes, accelerating from 100 kmh to 120 km/h to complete the pass. Assuming the mass of your vehicle was m = 1800 kg, that the energy density of the gasoline you used was about 36000 kJ/L, and that your engine efficiency is about 25%, how many litres of fuel did you use just to accelerate for...

2. Your 300 kg rocket car gets a constant force from its rocket to accelerate it at 4 m/s for 10 seconds. How much energy is transferred by work in this process? Neglect friction from wheels and air resistance. Answer in kJ. Answer: less than 250. Hint: there is more than one valid approach to calculate the energy transfer in this problem. One is much easier than the other.
A person decides to loose weight by eating only cold food. A 1 kg piece of apple pie yields 1500 kJ of energy when eaten. It its specific heat is 1.7 kJ/kg °C, how much less energy is its energy component at 25°C than at 100°C? Please show work.
13) There are several types of drag on a car other than air resistance. Effects having to do with the squeezing of the tires (rolling resistance) and frictional forces in the drivetrain (the system that transfers energy from the engine to the rotation of the wheels) also must be taken into account. Engineers use the following equation to model the total force due to these different effects Fdrag=A+Bv+Cv2Fdrag=A+Bv+Cv2 For a Camry, these coefficients are estimated to be A=117.130A=117.130 N, B=1.800...
A car moving at 30 miles/hour has roughly 100,000 J of kinetic energy. You need to keep your foot on the gas to maintain your speed (assume a flat road). The gas you burn represents 500 J of chemical energy every second. (show work) a. After 5 minutes, how much energy have you generated by burning gasoline? b. How much kinetic energy does your car have at this time? c. If this number is not 100,000 J, explain why. If...
Gravitational Fields: a) What is the escape velocity for a stationary object (of mass 100 kg) from a planet if an object dropped on its surface falls 5m in 1.4 seconds. (diameter of planet is 12,000 km) b) What is the objects velocity at a distance of 60, 000 km if the velocity is 1.2 times the escape velocity? Please show and explain as much work as possible. Thank you!
