During final step man pushes very hard to the surface and applies a grater amount of force on the surface. When man applies a grater amount of force on the surface then surface also applies a grater amount of force on the man by Newton's 3rd law.

So it is very much important to have sufficient friction so he can jump easily without any sliding. But if there is less friton then man can slip.
