Answer #1

Boulder is a city in colorado in the US. It has an elevation of 5330 ft and the temperature at this place is given as 40-degree Fahrenheit. Given that it is a dry day, the dry adiabatic lapse rate is found to be 5.38 Fahrenheit per 1000 ft. The dry day represents means the moisture in the environment is very less. Whenever the environmental conditions are not specified, we take into account the environmental lapse rate which is 6.5 degrees Celsius per km.

We need to figure out the temperature at 8460 ft. Therefore, the change in temperature as we move towards higher altitude is equal to (8640-5330) * (5.38/1000) = 17.80-degree Fahrenheit. So, (40-17.80) = 22.2 degrees Fahrenheit is the temperature at 8460 ft.
