Answer #1

RESEARCH APPROACH :

Quantitative approach.

RESEARCH DESIGN:

The research design selected for the study was pre experimental approach.

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM:

A study to assess effect of information booklet on the knowledge of class 4 servants(sweepers) regarding biomedical waste management in intensive care units in selected hospital of metropolitian city..

OBJECTIVES OF STUDY:

1.To assess the knowledge of class 4 servants regarding biomedical waste management by administering pre-test scores.

2.To assess the knowledge of class 4 servants regarding biomedical waste management in terms of post-test scores after administering planned teaching.

3.To assess effect of information booklet by comparing pre and post test knowledge scores.

HYPOTHESIS:

H01:

There will be significant difference between the pre and post test knowledge scores among class 4 servants regarding biomedical waste management.

H02:

There will be significant association between the level of knowledge regarding biomedical waste management with selected demographic variables.

LIMITATIONS:

1.The development of standard questions by researchers can lead to "structural bias" and false representation.

2. Results provide less detail on behavior, attitudes, and motivation.

3. Results are limited as they provide numerical descriptions rather than detailed narrative and generally provide less elaborate accounts of human perception.

DELIMITATION :

The study was confined to,

1.The class 4 servants who are working in intensive care units.

2.The class 4 servants who are willing to participate in the study.

3.The study was confined to selected hospita of metropolitian city.

4.The study was confined to one group pre test and post test.

VARIABLES:

1. INDEPENDENT VARIABLE:

Information booklet is an independent variable in this study.

2. DEPENDENT VARIABLE:

Knowledge of class 4 servants regarding biomedical waste management is the dependent variable.

POPULATION:

All class 4 servants of intensive care units of selected hospital.

Sample and sample size:

In this study, sample is class 4 employees in intensive care units of selected government hospital of metropolitan city.

Criteria for sample selection:

Inclusion criteria:

  1. All class 4 employees of intensive care units.
  2. Class 4 employees who are willing to participate.
  3. Class 4 employees who know Hindi language.

Exclusion criteria:

  1. Class 4 employees who are not willing to participate.
  2. Class 4 employees who don't understand Hindi language.
  3. Class 4 employees who are included in pilot study.

Tool:

The tool consisted of questionnaire which was used to assess knowledge of class 4 employees in pre-test and post-test. It consist of following sections.

Section I:The questionnaire consist of introduction, definition, importance of biomedical waste management and biomedical waste management rule.

Section II:The questionnaire consists of classification of biomedical waste.

Section III:The questionnaire consist of sources of biomedical waste.

Section IV:The questionnaire consists of biomedical waste management process.

Section V:The questionnaire consists of colour coding of biomedical waste management.

Section VI:The questionnaire consists of biomedical waste management process.

Section VII:The questionnaire consists of infection control.

SUGGESTIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS FOR IMPROVEMENT FOR THE FURTHER STUDY:

A large sample could have been taken in the study for better generalization , based on the study findings and the personal experience of the investigators during the study , the following recommendations are made.

  1. The same study can be conducted in different settings.
  2. The study can be replicated on large samples to validate and generalize the findings.
  3. An evaluative study can be conducted in relation to biomedical waste management hazards.

INTERPRETATION:

Information booklet is effective in increasing the knowledge of biomedical waste management among Class 4 employees.

CONCLUSION:‘t’ test was conducted to find out the effect of information booklet on knowledge regarding biomedical waste management, reveals that there is highly significant gain in post-test knowledge score, which proved that theinformation booklet is useful in increasing the knowledge of biomedical waste management among class 4 employees.
