Order: Fentanyl, 125mcg IV Once Directions: Dilute ordered medication to 5 mL with 0.9% Normal Saline and infuse over 15 minutes Available: FENTANYL Citrate Injection, USP 100 mcg Fentanyl/2 mL 14. How many milliliters of medication will you draw up? 15, How many milliliters of 0.9% Normal Saline will you add to dilute the medication to the ordered concentration? 16. At what rate will you set the IV pump to infuse the medication over the ordered time?

Available :100mcg/2ml

14.when 100mcg=2ml

Then 125mcg=??

Cross multiply and divide

=2.5 ml(125×2÷100)

2.5ml has to be drawn up

15.As it is given the ordered medication(125mcg) has to be diluted with 5ml of 0.9%NS to get the concentration

Ans.5ml 0.9%Normal Saline

15.Flow rate= Total volume×15÷Total time of transfusion ×60

If the time is over 1 hour to be administered Then

=5×15÷1×60

=1.25 drops per minute for 1 hour(60minutes)

So for 15minutes=??

= 0.3 drops/minute(1.25×15÷60)
