Butane has 2 possible but decane has 75 possible isomers. Why are there more isomers for decane than butane?
Butane only contains 4 carbon atoms, hence the single chain can be made of only two choices (3 carbon chain, having Carbon connected to second carbon chain)
So, only two isomers of Butane are possible, which are Butane and 2-methyl Propane
For decane, there are 10 carbons, atoms, so we can have 7,8,9,10 (carbon chains) with multiple CH3 substituted at different places to obtain different compounds.
Hence there are more isomers of decane than butane

Monochlorination of butane gives two constitutional isomers:
1-chlorobutane and 2-chlorobutane. Dichlorination of butane yields
six constitutional isomers. Four of these six isomers are drawn
below. Draw the structures of the two missing isomers.
Only two isomeric monochloro derivatives are posssible for (exclude stereo isomers) 1. n-butane 2. 2,4- dimethyl pentane 3. benzene 4. 2- methyl butane
1) Write the mechanism of chlorination reaction of the following compounds and draw the constitutional isomers a) Butane b) 2-methylbutane c) methylcyclobutane d) 2.2-dimethylbutane 2) An alternative reaction of ethane chlorination is shown below a) Why does not this reaction occur? b) Show a mechanism for this alternative reaction 3) Write the mechanism for the formation of carbon tetrachloride from methanelighthv.

How many constitutional isomers are possible in the dichlorination of cyclohexane? (Don't include cis/trans isomers as these are geometric isomers, although these are certainly possible with a cyclohexane ring.) 2 4 6 3 5
In this example, why can't more coordination isomers
be drawn by replacing the other unique ligands instead of having
just one exchanged?
