A plume from a smokestack has a pollutant emission rate of 1 kg/sec, at an exit velocity of 10 m/sec and a temperature of 50 degrees Celsius, The stack height is 20 m, its radius is 1.5 m, and the plume is known to rise under moderately stable conditions (the measured lapse rate is -6.5 degrees Celsius/ km). The measured wind speed is 4 m/sec and the air temperature is 27 degrees celsius. Find the effective stack height to use for the Gaussian plume model.

A new industrial facility is proposed at a location 5 km upwind from an existing multi- family residential development. The exhaust of the factory emits chloropicrin at the rate of 2500 g/s. The detection threshold for chloropicrin is 10 μg/m2. The atmospheric stability conditions for the area changes between stability classes D&F and the average wind speed is 5.0 m/s. Would should be the minimum recommended height for the smoke stack of that industrial facility? (Hint: we are concerned with...

    2. Before vehicle emissions were well-regulated co emissions were 66 g/mile. Assume this emission rate applies for an airshed. The airshed has dimensions of 9 km by 18 km with wind speeds of 1.5 m/s parallel to the longer dimension. There is a temperature inversion at 100 m. The average vehicle miles traveled is 800,000 miles each hour between 5 AM and 8 PM, and the concentration of CO before the morning rush hour and the incoming wind concentration are...

URGENT!! A rural power plant with no fly ash removal equipment burns 300 tons of coal per day. Using the emission rate given in the table 1 for a coal containing 9 percent ash and fired on a spreader stoker, determine the deposition rate for 50 um particles having a density of 1.5 g/cm3 at distances of 1 and 3.5 km downwind from a stack assuming that 10 percent of the emissions are approximately 50 um in diameter. The effective...

    10. Write a one-page summary of the attached paper? INTRODUCTION Many problems can develop in activated sludge operation that adversely affect effluent quality with origins in the engineering, hydraulic and microbiological components of the process. The real "heart" of the activated sludge system is the development and maintenance of a mixed microbial culture (activated sludge) that treats wastewater and which can be managed. One definition of a wastewater treatment plant operator is a "bug farmer", one who controls the aeration...
