After taking all the details, the member of the Institutional Review Board (IRB) will either approve or reject the proposal.
• The research finding would be beneficial to keep ninth-graders away from sexually explicit content if the research will find that sexually explicit content (such as videos) affects ninth-grader's attitudes in a negative way. However, the research in the wrong direction maybe has a harmful effect in terms of wrong application on a larger population. For example, wrong research findings may be used to make large scale policy that will require a huge amount of money to be spent that may waste because the policy is based on the wrong research.
• Since ninth-graders are not the right sample target for such research because ninth-graders have early adolescence age which is not the right time for adolescence to be directly exposed to sexually explicit content. It may drastically affect their academic interest, leaving them more interested in sexually explicit content. It is unethical to expose them to such content which may predispose them to an addiction for sexual activities. Therefore, as a member of IRB, one must not approve such a research proposal and instead of that, the member of the IRB should suggest changing the sample target, like taking adults as participants for this research.
