Which packing material offers the purest distillation?
Glass Beads vs. Glass Rings vs. Steel Wool
Why?
Usually glass beads will increase the surface area for condensation. Some of the higher boiling liquids also will starts to climb the column along with lower boiling liquids. Hence glass beads provide the surface area to condense higher boiling liquids which falls down in the column and lower boiling liquds getting the heat from these higher boiling liquids and converts to vapour. This method is very useful for separation of the liquids with the two different boiling points. We are getting pure compound.
Which packing material offers the purest distillation? Glass Beads vs. Glass Rings vs. Steel Wool Why?
1) Why is the column packing material used in the fractional distillation column? 2) What should be the characteristic features of an ideal column packing material? 3) Two fractional distillations are run with identical mixed samples of two liquids using different columns. In apparatus A, the column is 15 em long, and in apparatus B, the column is 25 cm long. Will one apparatus provide any better separation of the mixture then the other? If so which one and why?...
Suppose you used packing material with greater surface area than the Raschig rings used in this fractional distillation experiment. Would the separation of the two esters be better or worse? Briefly explain
