Answer #1

C. Results in transcription of mRNA molecule

  • There are basically 2 category of hormone - water soluble (protanecous hormone like insulin) and lipid soluble (steroid hormone like testosterone)
  • Water soluble hormone can't cross plasma membrane of cell and therefore their receptor lies on cell membrane and thus have extracellular, intracellular domain. They usually act by activation of secondary messenger. For example - insulin use tyrosine kinase receptors
  • Lipid soluble hormone can cross plasma membra e and therefore they can influence transcription by binding to intracellular receptor. For example - testosterone has intracellular receptor and influence transcription of many mRNA

On one hand, all compounds (nutrients, vitamins, drugs) consumed by humans must be soluble enough to enter our system but, on the other hand, not so soluble as to be filtered out by our kidneys before they can be effectively used. The above structures of penicillin and derivatives of penicillin highlight the difficulties in developing and administering drugs. All of the drugs in the penicillin family have the same mode of action; they all inhibit the formation of bacterial cell...
