The spectrum of a star is close enough to the standard blackbody spectrum. Hence we can use Wien's Law

\lambda _{max} = \frac{0.29 cm K}{T}

where \lambda _{max} is the wavelength of  the emission peak. This eqation is helpful to calculate that star’s temperature.

Now, two stars of the same spectral type have same \lambda _{max} and hence have the same temperature.
