A new company will sell medical supplies to hospitals and healthcare centers and will set up three offices in Indiana. About 15-20 employees are expected to work full-time at each office, which will be equipped with desktop computers, screens for video meetings and printers. (All these devices can connect to Wi-Fi.) All transactions (sales, shipping, human resources, accounting, finance, etc.) will be stored in cloud-based systems.

The owner requests your help with the networks and Internet access needs. What does the company need to interconnect the devices to each other in each office? How will the employees access the cloud-based systems? Do they need Internet connections? If so, how many connections? And with what kind of provider?

If the company does well, it will hire sales representatives to sell in other urban areas. Those reps will work remotely. (No new office locations or space is planned.) They may access the company’s data and systems from home or hotels, but many times they will visit clients that will not give the reps access to their Internet. What type of communications devices and service does the company need to provide for the sales reps? Does this service depend on location, or the company can contract service for any urban area?

The company needs a LAN or a local area network to interconnect the devices with each other within each part of the section of the office. The employees will access the cloud-based systems through the computer that is connected to internet services. The computers need to be connected to the internet and there will be multiple connections because every other computer in the local area network will be connected to the internet. The provider must be able to provide high bandwidth connectivity to ensure high-speed connectivity.

Handheld devices (tablets) are needed and those devices must have internet connections so that the company can remain connected with the sales representative. The service will be irrespective of their location so that the sales representative can work independently without any regional boundaries.
