Convert 1-octene to 1-octanol using the reagent that will follow the Markovnikov's rule. Show Mechanism thanks.
Markovikov's rule is a hypothetical assumption that states during the electrophilic addition reaction of alkene the hydrogen atom will be attached to the the doubly bonded carbon atom that contains higher number of hydrogen atoms.
If we treat the 1-octene with BH3/THF and followed by the treatment with NaOH/H2O2 then 1-octanol will be produced where the anti Markonikov's rule is followed ( that is hydrogen is attached to the carbon atom that contain less number of hydrogen atoms).
The detail reaction mechanism for the conversion of 1-octene to 1-octanol is shown below.

The Hydroboration-Oxidation of an Alkene to Yield 1-Octanol. 1-octene to 1-octanol using BH3-THF What might be a source of octane in the product mixture in this reaction? Hint: You did quench the hydroboration reaction with water and let the mixture sit for a week before proceeding to the oxidation step.
