Markovikov's rule is a hypothetical assumption that states during the electrophilic addition reaction of alkene the hydrogen atom will be attached to the the doubly bonded carbon atom that contains higher number of hydrogen atoms.

If we treat the 1-octene with BH3/THF and followed by the treatment with NaOH/H2O2 then 1-octanol will be produced where the anti Markonikov's rule is followed ( that is hydrogen is attached to the carbon atom that contain less number of hydrogen atoms).
