Answer #1

The belt and road intiative is a strategic program of the chinese government to improve the infrastructure and connectivity across trade routes in the world. It seeks to connect china with the world markets and reduces dependencies on sea routes. It improves connectviity across the traditional silk routes and involves investment in about 60-70 countries by china.

As of now, there is no common ground between china and canads on BRI platform as canada is not a part of BRI intiative.

China will benefit from BRI in sense that the overaland route connectivity will reduce the cost and risks of transportations. It will provide the chinese stakeholders to avoid hostile trade routes and ship directly by trucks only. This reduces the cost of operations and brings in improved connectivity which helps the supply chain.

Canada will get the benefits of low priced goods as well as improved trade access to the chinese markets.

The Challenges for china are availability of funds, geopolitics, Natural barriers to infrastructure, size of the project,Investment returns etc

The challenges involves negotiating trade policies, partnerships, taking on chinese debt, Geopolitics etc.
