Cost of Programming

The total cost of programming is calculated using 3 things:

1 The job to be done

2. The resources that are available

3. The nature of working environment

1. The job to be done

The job to do has two categories:

  • Operational Requirements and Design: It includes the costs associated characteristics of the system for which the program is being written.
  • Program Design and Production: Includes costs associated with support and operational programs by personnel, hardware, and operational requirements.

2.Available resources

  • Programming Personnel: Cost of human labor needed to develop a software/program.
  • Equipment for data processing: Cost of hardware required to develop and test a program including input-output and programming peripherals.

3.Nature of working environment

  • Management Procedures: Costs associated with the plans, policies, practices and review techniques used in the administration of all phases of program development.
  • Developing Environment: Costs resulting from collaboration with external organizations, including customers and other programming contractors.
  • Facilities, Services, and Supplies: costs related to essential supplies, physical land, indirect labor etc

This is just a rough figure of cost of programming. surely many more factors can be integrated here with the above. The estimation of cost is one of the important tasks in software development.Lots of questions need to be answered to make this a final statement such as how can programming talent or skill be measured or how are these factors related to each other.

HOPE THIS HELPS.
