When an aqueous solution of manganese(II) sulfate, MnSO4, is added to an aqueous solution of silver(I) acetate, AgCH3COO, a precipitate of silver(I) sulfate, Ag2SO4, forms. Write a balanced net ionic equation for this reaction.

Use the pull-down choices to specify states such as (aq) or (s). If a box is not needed leave it blank.

Answer #1

MnSO4(aq) + 2 CH3COOAg(aq) \rightarrow Ag2SO4(s) + Mn(CH3COO)2(aq)

Net ionic reaction can be written as

SO42-(aq) + 2 Ag+(aq) \rightarrow Ag2SO4(s)

Silver sulphate is sparingly soluble salt. It's solubility product is very less, even small concentration of Ag+ can be precipitated by sulphate ion
