Answer #1

For diffusion limited quenching, time for quenching particles to diffuse toward and collide with excited particels to diffuse towards and collide with excited particles is the limiting factor.if anyhracene floresence quenching rate is chemically it shud obey volmers equation. The limiting factor should be only the concentration of quenchee.but that is not the case.rate depends on viscosity of solution and diffusion rates too. There for it is a diffusion controlled process.

2. Floresence intensityof a substance depends on natural life time of it's excited single state, rate constant of which first excited state is deactivated by non radioactive processes.some substances are efficient at deactivating or quenching excited states.these are usually substances with heavy atoms. ( halogens ). Floresence of most compounds are efficiently quenched by halogenated alkenes such as ccl4 and cbr4. So rraction is very fast in case 2

    5. Arrange the following solvents in increasing order of reaction rate for Diels-Alder reaction between anthracene and 1,3-dimethylcyclopentene. Draw structure of product with appropriate stereochemistry. 10 points Ethyl acetate diisopropyl ether Ethanol Water Hexane The same order of reactivity would not necessarily result in the highest yield of the product - meaning, the solvent with highest reactivity would not necessarily give you the most amount of product based on procedure employed in the lab. Explain why this is so.

    10. Write a one-page summary of the attached paper? INTRODUCTION Many problems can develop in activated sludge operation that adversely affect effluent quality with origins in the engineering, hydraulic and microbiological components of the process. The real "heart" of the activated sludge system is the development and maintenance of a mixed microbial culture (activated sludge) that treats wastewater and which can be managed. One definition of a wastewater treatment plant operator is a "bug farmer", one who controls the aeration...
