Trader Joe's is a U.S based chain of grocery stores with its headquarters in California. As of November 2019, it operates 503 stores according to the information available on Wikipedia.

Logistics is a term often used in the business lexicon. It means the range of activities that includes procurement of raw materials and the delivery of the final polished good to the customer. Although supply chain and logistics are used interchangeably, they have a subtle difference, the chain of networks of organizations that integrate to make the shipment of the product possible constitute the supply chain.

Functional strategies are part of the overall corporate strategy prepared for the functional areas of an organizational structure. It acts as an aid in focusing the company's efforts on major functional areas of activity like marketing, sales, and production which are also known as key success factors.

Technology strategy is the plan which contains the tactics, principles, and objectives relating to the use of technologies within a particular organization.

Trader Joe's Logistics and Supply Chain Management(LSCM) strategy consists of a simplified inventory that aids the flow of information and materials. The inventory consists of a minimal number of Stock Keeping Units(SKUs). It integrates with the organization's larger functional strategy of increasing sales. This is made possible by offering a small choice of products to customers and fulfilling customer orders, allowing Trader Joe's to increase customer fulfillment by offering products of high quality at low cost. Trader Joe's also sells private label products in its stores.

Trader Joe's technology strategy is primarily to run low-tech stores that shun the use of technology. This is done by reducing the use of technology in stores which is implied by the absence of self-checkout lines(that require specialised self-service solutions dependent on technology). An example of the use of technology by Trader Joe's is the development of an interactive website that allows customers to locate Trader Joe's stores from the website.

Some recommendations for the improvement of the firm's LCSM strategy as it relates to their functional strategy is to adopt a greater number of SKUs. This will allow the firm to maintain a larger inventory and offer a greater choice to customers. Trader Joe's can also reduce the proportion of private label products manufactured by its supply chain partners that are sold in its store. This will help create value for the Trader Joe's brand and build customer loyalty and increase fulfillment.

In the area of technology strategy, it is recommended that Trader Joe's acquires, allocates and manages IT solutions and resources to a greater extent than it currently does. This will ensure that Trader Joe's is able to maintain parity with other companies in the retail sector. This may be done by making use of ERP software developed by SAP that will help manage business operations and help the business achieve a paradigm shift in functional strategy and technology strategy as it relates to Logistics and Supply Chain Management(LCSM).

Summary:

Trader Joe's is a US-based grocery retailer. Trader Joe's Logistics and Supply Chain Management Strategy consists of maintaining a tight inventory that enables greater customer fulfillment and increases sales. Trader Joe's is primarily a low-tech store. Further discussion of the functional strategy and technology strategy in relation to the Logistics and Supply Chain Management, and recommendations for improvement of its key implementation activities as well as key supply chain partners is given in the explanation portion below.
