Prenatal care is very important for a normal pregnancy. Prenatal care is nothing but the necessary basic healthcare provided to a pregnant women for a healthy and mature delivery. It includes a timely visit of pregnant women for necessary routine checkups like physical test, weight test, blood test, urine test and ultrasound. It prevents the risk of birth complications and ensures the safety of mother as well as child during and after delivery.

The nurse’s role in prenatal care are as follows -

• Provides proper education to the mother related to pregnancy and teaches her different way to promote healthy pregnancy.
• Timely monitors the health status of the mother as well as the child inside her.
• Also provides an emotional support to the mother and helps the mother in managing the different mental and physical changes during pregnancy.
• Early recognition of health problems related to pregnancy and provide appropriate treatment.
