A local consignment store uses a linear formula to set its prices based on how long the merchandise has gone without selling. Inspecting the price tag for a Shaker-style correspondence desk, you see that it has been in the store for 5 days and is currently priced at $308.49; but if it still hasn't sold after a total of 13 days in store it will only cost $232.49.
