In the Trojan War, it was a convincing view that Gods are the more superior beings. They sided various armies, and none of those sides were more favored. The Trojan War itself began because of a rivalry between Athena, Aphrodite, and Hera. Then each of these Gods had a favorite. Example:- Aphrodite adores Paris while Athena adores Odysseus. This favoring is based on God's own preconceived notion rather than the moral values of particular individuals. The Gods do not act as honest guides but are rendered jealous, unpredictable, and vengeful at times. The gods have human-like characteristics, as they watch over their favorite human. Some of these Gods are not admirable and have some flaws similar to their human counterparts. Throughout "The Illiad," Homer describes the relationship between Humans and Gods and the total effect it has on all characters.
The role of various Gods and Goddesses is clearly visible in the lives of human beings. They play a significant if not dominant role in the lives of humans.
In "The Illiad," the Gods played a critical role in deciding the winner of the outcome of the war. The heroes in the war were entirely at the mercy of Gods and Goddesses. The principal characters in "The Illiad." had significant ties with the Gods, and the epic story would look much less appealing if the concept of Gods were missing.
