a): How to centre and level and orientate a Total station over designated survey point. In order to develop as a built plan, the position and height of points are determined by measuring angles and distances. For this purpose, arrange and set your instrument up on any prominent point to develop a local coordinate system. Substitute the coordinate (x = 0, y = 0) and instrument height Select the second prominent point for the purpose of orientation. After this has been done, the horizontal circle must be set to zero. Orientate a Point Fix up the device at a known point and set the horizontal circle. Then enter the coordinate to staking out. \r\n and then turn the total station until the horizontal circle reads zero. Fix the reflector at this point say(P) Measure the distance between these two points.
