Addition reactions are a characteristic property of alkenes and alkynes.

During hydrogenation reaction , the double bond between two carbon atoms breaks and hydrogen is added to each carbon atom.

Alkenes and alkynes on complete hydrogenation gives alkanes.

This reaction is an example of addition reaction.
