One of the most important stages that was a new inclusion in the developmental stages is the emerging adulthood that was placed between adolescence and adulthood. This is a link between the adolescent age which is more preparatory in terms of education, physical and emotional development and adulthood which is characterized by marriage, family, children and job responsibilities. Emerging adulthood is thus a preparatory stage for adulthood by identifying one’s profession, intimate partner, family type, sexual orientation etc. However, it differs between individualistic and collective cultures because most of the theories are developed in the western context which would be more applicable in that environment. Collective cultures would place more emphasis on family and social norms thus, people would be supported more by their families and adolescents would depend on their parents until they get married and settle separately. Besides, most families are traditional joint families and for those people, it may not apply.
