let the unknown compoound be SnxCl

mole ratio of atoms =(moles of Sn) / (moles of Cl)..............(1)

Given that moles of Sn = 0.178 moles

moles of Cl= 0.712 moles

substituting the values in equation .....(1)

(0.178) / (0.712) =X

X=0.2

the formula of the compound is Sn0.2Cl
