Problem 10.40
A soccer ball, which has a circumference of 70.0 cm, rolls 12.0 yards in 3.45 s .
Part A
What was the average angular speed of the ball during this time? (units= rad/s)
circumference, P = 70 cm
r = P/(2*pi)
r = radius of ball = 0.7/(2*pi) = 0.111 m
distance traveled = 12 yard = 10.97 m
time taken = 3.45 sec
v = speed = distance travelled/time
v = 10.97/3.45 = 3.18 m/sec
Now we know that
V = w*r
w = V/r = 3.18/0.111 = 28.65 rad/sec

a lane. The ball slides on the lane with initial speed
vcom,0 = 11.0 m/s and initial angular speed

fk acting on the ball causes a
linear acceleration of the ball while producing a torque that
causes an angular acceleration of the ball. When speed

BB8 is an intergalactic robot (essentially a soccer ball with a half meter radius that can control how fast it rolls around) that is trying out for a new role in the rebellion. One of the tests is how fast they can travel 100 m. They must start from rest and end at rest. BB8 has a maximum angular acceleration rate of 2 rad/s^2, both when speeding up and slowing down. (a) What is the minimum time BB8 can run...

Shrinking Loop. A circular loop of flexible iron wire has an initial circumference of 160 cm , but its circumference is decreasing at a constant rate of 12.0 cm/s due to a tangential pull on the wire. The loop is in a constant uniform magnetic field of magnitude 0.500 T , which is oriented perpendicular to the plane of the loop. Assume that you are facing the loop and that the magnetic field points into the loop. Part A Find...
