Answer #1

This can be explained by using Bronsted Lowry concept of acids and bases. This can be explained as under

For Acids : Acid is a substance which can release H+ ions in water. Any acid after losing H+ acts as a conjugate base . If the acid is strong, then its conjugate base will be weak. If the acid is weak, then its conjugate base will be strong.

For base : Bases are the substance which can release OH-ions in water. Any base after losing OH- ion acts as a conjugated acid. If the base is strong, then its conjugate acid will be weak . If the base is weak, then its conjugate base will be weak.

Given weak acid HCOOH in water. As the acid is weak. Its conjugate will be strong base.

i. e., HCOOH >>>>>>> HCOO- + H+

HCO2-is a strong conjugate base. (c) option is correct.

(Not mentioned that one option is correct or multiple answers)

If more than one option is correct.

Then,

{HCOOH_{2}-} >>>>>>>> HCOOH + H-

As HCOOH is a weak acid. So, HCOOH2- must be a strong base in water. So, If multiple answers are correct, E is also correct.
