Hi George. Yeah, I’m doing OK, but I keep getting recurrences of the bad gut ache, and now I’m taking about three times the recommended dose of those Tagamet to control it. I think I’m gonna have to get something stronger. Wow—are you under stress or something? You should get yourself checked out; maybe you have an ulcer. No more stress than usual George. But this gut ache has just been getting gradually worse over time; yeah, maybe it’s an ulcer, but I don’t know why I would get one now. The other thing is now I have bad diarrhea as well, and some of it is pretty ugly—you know, greasy and smelly. I guess I better make an appointment to see somebody about this.
Why is Fred having to take so many Tagamet to control his acid production?
What exactly is an ulcer and what causes it?
How are Fred’s symptoms of stomach ache pain and diarrhea with greasy stool related? Or are they two separate problems?
Tagamet ( cimetidine) is a drug that is used to reduce the amount of acid in your stomach, it acts by blocking certain receptors in the stomach so that less acid is produced by the stomach. In this case the bad gut ache experienced by this individual is due to excess stomach acid produced, so by consuming Tagamet he could get relief from the pain.
Ulcer occurs when thick layer of mucus that lines the digestive tracts gets damaged from the stomach acid. They are the painfull sores in the stomach lining. Ulcer could be caused by infection with a type of bacteria known as H.Pylori, long term of use of certain mediaction like Asprin could also cause this condition, abnormal immune response, enviornmental factors, certain food all can cause ulcer.
Diarrhea occurs when the nutrients in food are not absorbed properly, when this occurs stools can become loose, watery, oily and foul smelling, too much fat in your stool is known as Steatorrhea, it can be a sign of malabsorption, this could be due to your body not absorbing nutrients properly or not making enzymes or bile needed to digest the food properly.Underlying cause be could infection of the pancreas, cystic fibrosis, Irritable bowel syndrome autoimmune disease, etc.

It’s great to hear from you,” Jane answered. “Hi Jane. Well I...
There was no question about Carl’s genius. Seven years ago he decided to enter the competitive nightmare that the personal computer business had become. Although on the surface that appeared to be a rather non-genius-like move, the genius came in the unique designs and features that he developed for his computer. He also figured a way to promise delivery in only two days for the local and regional market. Other computer makers also had rapid production and delivery, but they...
