efore the dams was built the tribes were following healthy traditional foods like topiary beans, cholla buds, and wild game. Metabolic disorder rates were nearly null. After the building of dam the Us military began to disburse commodity foods like flour, mashed potatoes, cheese. beans, grape juice, refined sugar, lard, canned foods, chips, candy. The tribes traditional foods were replaced by the commodity foods provided by the US military. The use of them acculturated the community overtime. The food they were getting was based on lard, refined sugar, white flour, cheese, and canned food. Many of the food items were known to cause metabolic disorders like diabetes. After leaving the hard work of farming behind them the Three Tribes accumulated the culture of sedentary life style. Around 40 percent of them were receiving commodity foods. Doctors found many cases of diabetes after few years of use of it and suspected there were more undiagnosed cases. The change in food habits and lifestyles were the contributing factors of illness among them.
