The ligand plays the crucial role in the coupling reactions. Firstly, the ligand makes the metal centre electron-rich which facilitate the oxidative addition step. Secondly, sometimes the bulky size of the ligand (ligand cone angle), favours the reductive elimination step. So, the ligand can directly influence both the oxidation addition and reductive elimination steps of the coupling reactions. Due to these reasons, the selection of ligand in the coupling reaction is very important.
