Let the charges be Q1 = Q2 = -Q

The two negative charges attract the positive test charge q0 with the same force

F = - \frac{kQq_0}{r^2}

where r is the distance between the test charge and one of the negative charges

and r2 = x2  + y2

Both the negative charges attract the test charge towards them with the same force F,

Each force F will have two components, Fcos \theta \ and \ Fsin \theta

Fsin \theta components cancel each other as they are in opposite directions

thus net force on the test charge will be downwards , that is in the negative y - axis direction
