Sample mean is the point estimate of the population mean.

Sample standard deviation is the point estimate of the population standard deviation.

Given a sample of size n = 6

a) The sample mean is given by

sample mean = sum of observations/No of observations

= (2+9+10+6+10+17)/6

= 54/6

= 9

$\therefore$ The point estimate of the population mean is 9

b)The sample standard deviation s is given by

s =

Using given data, find Xi-$\bar x$ for each term.take square for each.then we can easily find s.

s= 4.9799598391955 $\approx$5.0
