Sample mean is the point estimate of the population mean.

Sample standard deviation is the point estimate of the population standard deviation.

Given a sample of size n = 6

a) The sample mean is given by

sample mean = sum of observations/No of observations

= (2+9+10+6+10+17)/6

= 54/6

= 9

\therefore The point estimate of the population mean is 9

b)The sample standard deviation s is given by

s = I-U z(x - x) 3

Using given data, find Xi-\bar x for each term.take square for each.then we can easily find s.

s= 4.9799598391955 \approx5.0

The point estimate of the population standard deviation is 5.0
