Given the structures answer the following questions.
select the molecules shown above that are planar. in this case, planar implies that all atoms are in a single plane. Also, select all of the molecules, if any, with delocalized pi electrons

Answer #1

Q1

N2F2 --> planar since no lone pairs left to reppeal

H2NNH2 --> not planar, since Nitrogen has lone pairs which reppeal each bond, therefore, 3-D structure

NCCN --> planar, mainly because of the triple bond formed by Carbon

Q2

delocalized electrons

must have at least double bonds so PI electrons are present

N2F2 --> not likely

H2NNH2 --> no electrons in ¨PI

HCCN --> linear, thereofre not possible

choose "none"

Answer #2

Q1 N2F2 planar because there are no lone pairs left to repel

H2NNH2 not planar it is a 3-D structure

NCCN planar and has a triple bond

Q2

N2F2 does not

H2nnh2 does not

HCCN is the correct answer because although it wouldn't appear to have delocalized pi bonds it is possible to draw a resonance structure moving pi electrons away from their original location.

    answer: ideal bonding model would be the one to simplicity of the localized electrons model but with the delocalization characteristics of the molecular orbital model. This is achieved by combing the two models to describe molecules that require resonance. In case of Benzene and O3, the double bond that show charges in positions in the resonance structure. Since the double bond involves one ? and one? Bond, there is a ? bond between all bound atoms in each resonance structure....
