The school, especially today is so susceptible to lawsuits and liabilities. With the principal sharing this information with authorities is sure to be more of a protective avenue to him and the school. The most important thing in a classroom regarding incidents like this is taking measures to make sure everything is reported on paper and you have some sort of evidence and paper trail of evidence that could be used if you are ever questioned in a situation.
