Xena is going home from an interplanetary travel. Her ship is directed to Earth and is traveling at speed v. When she is at a distance L from Earth (in her reference frame) she sends a signal to her husband Yan to get the dinner ready. In her reference frame the dinner takes a time tD to cook.

a) How far is she from Earth when she sends the signal in Yan’s reference frame?

b) How long will it take for the light to reach the Earth in her reference frame?

c) How long will it take for the light to reach the Earth in his reference frame?

d) How long after the signal will she arrive on Earth in his reference frame?

e) How long before Xena’s arrival should Yan put the dinner on the stove? (i.e., how long does it take to cook dinner in his reference frame?)

Use S for Xena’s reference frame and S’ for Yan’s.
