Answer #1

False

As the consumer is a rational consumer that is he has to maximise his satisfaction at low price. The law of equi marginal utility states that a consumer will distribute his money in such a way that the utility derived from last rupee of each good are equal. A consumer is in equilibrium when MUx/Px =MUy/Py . If MUx/Px > MUy/Py then the consumer will substitue good x for good y. This will reduce the marginal utility for good x. Therefore the consumer will use more of good y to bring back the marginal utility to equilibrium. That is why the statement is false. This will reduce the marginal utility and the household will spend more on good y and less on good x.
