In what scenario would self-disclosure work for clients in social work practice.
Answer. Self disclosure should be avoided in such practices as it is very important to maintain a professional relationship with the client. By self disclosure you will mix both personal and professional life.
But in some cases a minimal level of self disclosure is fine. If
the client is very resistant and is not able to build rapport or
trust in you , it is no harm in telling a little about yourself .
But it should be made sure that not much information is leaked
out.
For Instance , if a client is discussing his failures in life and
how he is not able to move on . At this stage you can give one of
your example and how you moved on. Not much details are required
but yes this can help client feel confident about the problem and
think that he is not the only one .
