LABORATORY #2 QUESTIONS Do not attach this sheet to your homework. I aready have a copy 1. Calculate and report the bulk relative density. SSD relative density, apparent relative density. and absorption of the crushed limestone per ASTM C-127 Section 10. (Make sure to follow the rules specified in that section). 2. Calcuiate and report the bulk relative density. SSD relative density. apparent relative density, and absorption of the concrete sand per ASTM C-128 Section 11. (Make sure to follow the rules specified in that section) 3. In a typical concrete mix, the sand particles occupy roughly 30% of the volume. Use the bulk relative density from Question 2 to determine the weight (in pounds) of dry sand needed to make 7 yds of concrete (enough to fill a typical concrete transit truck). Pay attention to significant digits 4. Using the results from Lab 1 (next page). compute the gradation that would result if you blended 40% crushed stone and 60% concrete sand. Plot the results on a blank gradation chart downloaded from the website. (Note that Ive refined the crushed stone gradation by showing the actual gradation of everything that passed through the No. 4 screen and landed in the pan in Lab 1.) 5. Using Table 4.3 in the textbook, determine which standard size number best applies to the crushed limestone from Lab 1. (Note: it helps to keep in mind the definitions of nominal maximum aggregate size and nominal minimum aggregate size.)
