Solution:
For any given energy level,n (principal quantum number) of an atom there may exixts there are some combinations of orbitals. They are of different shapes, denoted by a letter (s, p, d, f, g,....etc.).
Among them except s orbitals which exists as only one rest are composed of three and more and are considered as degenrate as they are of same or similar energies.
The number of orbitals per level is given by n2 while the maximum number of electrons in a given level is obtained from 2n2.
Coming to the question we can easily cancel out options (a), (c) and (d)
Maximum number of electrons for n=9 is ( 2*92 )= 162 . So option (d) is wrong.
Option (c) is also wrong as ns orbitals cannot be degenerate with respect to themselves.
Also there are 5 degenerate d orbitals in each level so the option (a) is wrong.
Option (b) is correct as there are three p orbitals of exactly same energy which makes them degenerate.

Part B Each principal level with n= 2 or greater contains three p orbitals (pz, Py, and p:). The three 2p orbitals are shown below. The p orbitals are not spherically symmetric like the sorbitals, but rather have two lobes of electron density on either side of the nucleus. The three 2p orbitals differ only in their orientation, and they are perpendicular to one another. ti P. P, orbital Py orbital P orbital The 2p orbital is not spherically symmetric...
For each of the following complexes, give an energy level diagram of the split d orbitals, fill the orbitals with electrons appropriately, and indicate the number of unpaired electrons (spins). In addition, calculate the LFSE for (a)–(f). (a) [Co(NH3)4(CN)2] (b) [Cr(CN)6]3– (c) [FeF6]3– (d) MnO4– (tetrahedral) (e) [Cu(H2O)6]2+ (f) [Cd(CN)4]2– (g) [Ni(CN)4]2
4. (2) The 3rd main energy level (n=3) of atoms has 3 sublevel types designated by the letters: s,p and d. Each type of sublevel can hold a different maximum number of electrons. The S-type sublevel can hold a maximum of electrons, the p-type sublevel can hold a maximum of electrons and d-type can hold a maximum of electrons. Because of this, the entire n=3 level when filled to capacity can hold a total of electrons.
