Answer #1
  • Answer is 41.3 %

Solution:

Theoretical yield:

(M.W. of Cl2= 70.906 g/mol, M.W. of KCl= 74.55 g/mol)

Here, 3 mole (3 x 70.906 g = 212.718 g) of Cl2 give 5 mole (5 x 74.55 g = 372.75 g) of KCl.

12 g of Cl2 react with excess of KOH, hence theoretical yield is calculate as below.

Theoretical yield = (372.75 x 12) / 212.718 = 21.02 g

Now, Percent yield = (actual yield/ theoretical yield) x 100

= (8.7 / 21.02) x 100

= 41.3 %
