Answer #1

Ans. (1) 39.9 ml sodium hydroxide

Explanation:

The balanced chemical reaction between sodium hydroxide and perchloric acid is :

NaOH + HClO4 --------> NaClO4 + H2O

Molarity of sodium hydroxide , M1 = 0.150M

Volume of sodium hydroxide used, V1 = ?

Molarity of perchloric acid, M2 = 0.224M

Volume of perchloric acid used, V2=26.7 ml

Using,

M1V1= M2V2

V1 = M2V2 / M1

V1 = ( 0.224 M × 26.7 ml) / 0.150 M

= 39.87 ml = 39.9 ml

So, volume of NaOH used = 39.9 ml

2) 16.9 ml Hydrochloric acid

The reaction between Hydrochloric acid and sodium hydroxide is :

NaOH + HCl ----------> NaCl + H2 O

Molarity of Hydrochloric acid, M1 = 0.257 M

Volume of Hydrochloric acid, V1= ?

Molarity of sodium hydroxide, M2= 0.150M

Volume of sodium hydroxide, V2 = 29ml

Using,

M1V1 = M2V2

V1 = M2V2/ M1

=( 0.150M × 29.0 ml) / 0.257 M

= 16.9 ml

Thus, volume of HCl used = 16.9 ml
