Li2CO3 is classified as a ternary ionic compound. In case of a ternary ionic compound there are three or more different elements as here also i.e Li, C and O. These have one type of cation, anion. Cation , anion or both can be a polyatomic ion i.e. Cation= Li+ Anion= CO3^-1.
