The drawing shows an intravenous feeding. With the distance shown, nutrient solution (ρ = 1060 kg/m3) can just barely enter the blood in the vein. What is the gauge pressure of the venous blood? Express your answer in millimeters of mercury.

The density of the nutrient solution ρ = 1060kg/m^3

the height difference h = 0.610m

therefore the gauge pressure of the venous blood

      P = ρgh

         = (1060)(9.8)(0.61)

          = 6336.68 Pa

          =( 6.336*10^3 Pa)(7.50*10^-3 mm og Hg /Pa)

          = 47.5mm of Hg
